The Conglomerate Group and Echoing Soundz have partnered together to celebrate R&B recording artist Kelly Price’s (Sang Girl Management) nomination for three GRAMMY® categories including “Best R&B Performance” (Kelly Price and Stokley Williams), “Best R&B Song” (Not My Daddy) and “Best R&B Album” (Kelly). The event titled, “Kelly Price & Friends Unplugged: For the Love of R&B,” will be held Thursday, February 9, 2012, 9:00pm – 2:00am at Tru Hollywood located at 1600 N. Argyle Avenue in Hollywood. .
Kelly Price said, “R&B music is a movement, a political statement, the mood of a people and the voice of a culture.” Price is using this event to spark a movement to bring attention to the importance of R&B as a significant artistic genre in today’s musical landscape.
With the GRAMMYS® cutting its R&B categories in half this year from eight to four, it’s apparent the relevancy of the “soulful melody” is at risk of diminishing in the public eye. Price said, "Sometimes we take what we love for granted. We have to get the people fired up to support R&B music again. This night of bringing together the best of the best in the music industry, symbolizes unity and passion to keep R&B alive forever."
Platinum R&B recording artist Faith Evans and fellow R&B crooner Kenny Lattimore, will host the exclusive event. Special guests international icon Whitney Houston, platinum R&B recording artist Tyrese and “Southland” star Regina King, will be on hand to wish their good friend Kelly Price congratulations. The evening will include live performances by Keke Wyatt, Lonny Bereal, and Terrell Carter, topped off with an explosive rendition of the GRAMMY® nominated song “Not My Daddy” by Kelly Price herself. The mic will then be passed around the room for more exciting surprise performances throughout the night. A special musical tribute will be performed to honor the late Don Cornelius, Etta James, Vesta and Heavy D. Red carpet space is limited for this event. Working media please RSVP by emailing events.tcg@gmail.com and jcecpr@gmail.com. VIP Tables are limited, but still available for purchase. To reserve seating, contact Malcom Harvest at 310-686-7259.
This special evening wraps up Kelly Price’s Road to the GRAMMYS®, a campaign launched by Sang Girl Management, involving a mix of daily social media blasts, radio and television appearances and thank you events for the fans and media, leading up to the GRAMMYS® on Feb. 12th. Sang Girl, one of the few African American, woman-owned indie labels, which is owned by Kelly Price, will continue the grass roots efforts of promoting the music that resulted in Price’s nominations. Kelly Price said, “The Road to the GRAMMYS® is my ‘love letter’ to R&B music…past, present and future and a salute to all the artists and musicians who create this amazing art form.”
No rookie to the music business and no stranger to hit projects, Kelly Price spent her early years in the music business behind the scenes writing hit songs and lending background vocals for artists including Mariah Carey, Elton John, George Michael, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston and more. Additionally, she was the featured voice on the Notorious B.I.G.'s "Mo Money, Mo Problems" and Mase's "Feels So Good." In 1997, Price appeared on Sean “Puffy” Combs’ smash “No Way Out’ and was a featured performer on Puffy's subsequent tour. Price's solo debut, Soul of a Woman, followed in 1998 on the Island label which featured the record-breaking single, “Friend of Mine”. The song made history as the first to garner the #1 spot on the singles chart without an accompanying video clip, a rare feat during the era when music videos were the driving force of popular culture; a remix of the song “Friend” featured R.Kelly and Ronald Isley and for a second time took the #1 spot on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip hop Singles Chart. After the double platinum success of Soul of A Woman and switching to Def Soul in the wake of the PolyGram-Universal merger she returned to center stage in 2000 with the platinum-plus seller, Mirror, Mirror, led by her GRAMMY® Award and American Music Award nominated remake of the R&B classic, “As We Lay”.
Price said, “I am deeply grateful for the three GRAMMY®nominations this year. Whether I win or not, this confirms that I just may have reached my goal in launching my independent label, which was to get back to the kind of music I experienced growing up where you could buy an album, tape or cd and enjoy listening to it beginning to end without wanting to skip a single song. With this latest project, hopefully, I got it right…I think I did.”
