MOVIES PLAY LEAD ROLE IN TIME SPENT WITH DEAR OLD DAD | ||||||||||||||||||
In Honor of Father’s Day redbox Survey Shines the Spotlight on Americans’ Favorite Dads on Film |

Laugh Out Loud. Comedy films ranked the highest (47 percent) when it comes to movie-time with dad, followed by action-packed adventures (43.3 percent). Not surprisingly, heartfelt dramas were only popular with six percent of respondents. “I’m Gonna Have Fun, and You’re Gonna Have Fun.” Chevy Chase’s legendary Clark Griswold from the 1983 classic, “National Lampoon’s Vacation” was voted as the funniest movie dad of all time (40.9 percent), followed by the free-spirited Bernie Focker, played by Dustin Hoffman, in “Meet the Fockers” (17.6 percent). Role Models. Denzel Washington’s epic performance as John Q. Archibald in the 2002 hit, “John Q,” earned him recognition as the actor who plays the best dad in a movie (23.9 percent), edging out Steve Martin’s performance as the endearing George Banks in “Father of the Bride” (19.8 percent). Can’t Soon Forget. A cross-dressing Robin Williams landed in the top spot (28.5 percent) as the most memorable on-screen dad for his role as Daniel Hillard in “Mrs. Doubtfire.” None other than the Godfather himself, Don Vito Corleone, as portrayed by the legendary Marlon Brando, came in second (21.7 percent) with Will Smith’s inspiring run as Chris Gardner in “Pursuit of Happyness” coming in third (19.6 percent). Family Man. The best father & son movie honors (38.5 percent) were given to the 1989 film, “Field of Dreams” starring Kevin Costner and James Earl Jones, with “Father of the Bride” taking the cake for the best father & daughter movie (28.8 percent). Movies for Dad at redbox. This Father’s Day, redbox is offering affordable entertainment with a variety of titles for dads nationwide, including “Paul Blart: Mall Cop,” for those who love to laugh. Adrenaline fueled families will enjoy the action-packed “ Each fully automated redbox kiosk holds approximately 700 DVDs, representing up to 200 of the newest movie releases. Consumers simply use a touch screen to select their favorite movies, swipe a valid credit or debit card and go. Customers can keep the DVD for as long as they’d like for $1 per night plus tax, and return it to any one of redbox’s more than 15,000 locations nationwide. After 25 nights, rental charges cease and the DVD is the customer’s to keep.
