YWCA GLA Black & White Benefactrix Ball Draws
LA Tastemakers to Raise Funds for
Local Job Corps Students

El DeBarge, Kym Whitley, Kenny Lattimore and other Celebs Join In to Make A House A Home for LA Youth

The YWCA Black & White Benefactrix Ball held Friday, October 22, 2010, drew top LA tastemakers to make a house a home for local Job Corps students.  Sponsors included Edison International, Union Bank, JPMorgan Chase, Wells Fargo and Los Angeles Confidential Magazine.

The event honored some of the community's most respected humanitarians, including Congresswoman Diane Watson with the 2010 Silver Achievement Award, Daphna Ziman with the 2010 Soromundi Sisters of the World Award and Antonio Manning with the 2010 Corporate Champion Award.

Hosted by the lovely Adai Lamar (KJLH-FM), guests enjoyed an exciting live auction with comedian/actress Kym Whitley (NBC's School Pride) as the auctioneer and a scintillating performance by multiplatinum recording artist El DeBarge.  To view a brief clip of the performance, visit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YmW9UsTqM24.

Special guests included Grammy nominated recording artist Kenny Lattimore, actress Rachel Grant (007 Die Another Day), actress Mirtha Michelle (Fast & the Furious), model Marilin Archie (She's Got the Look), actress Tangi Miller (Felicity), actress Kiki Shepard (Showtime at the Apollo), actress Shanica Knowls (Hannah Montana), Holly Mitchell (Democratic candidate for State Assembly in California's 47th District) and more.

With local Job Corps students slated to move into their new downtown urban campus in early 2012, the need for YWCA Greater Los Angeles (YWCA GLA) to raise funds for student soft goods is an urgent one.  Student soft goods include towels, sheets, bathroom items and electronics.  The YWCA GLA introduced a special Urban Campus Gift Catalogue for supporters to donate funds to various Job Corps student needs at the event and is now  available online at www.ywcagla.org.

The YWCA GLA Job Corps program won seven prestigious awards in 2010; the program provides housing, medical costs, vocational training and meals at no cost to Job Corps student participants. Job Corps students are at risk, previously homeless or emancipated foster kids, ages 16 - 24 years of age who rely on the YWCA GLA's resources to help provide a second chance in life to become self sufficient and gainfully employed citizens.
