Natasha Speaks:
New Isn't Always News New products and promotions you want to pitch this holiday season?
Find something newsworthy to tie them to using AP Planner
I see it every day and it's even more prominent during the holiday season: companies offering "Limited Time Only" promotions and pitching "new" products. This may seem like news to the brand, but it isn't necessarily interesting to the media. To contribute to the likely success of your press release's pickup, PR professionals need to do a good job of positioning their products and promotions in a way that's newsworthy and factual.
"The holidays are always a big time for promotions and new product launches. Your best opportunities come when your product or trend fits into the story that journalists are going to tell," said Jeff Tidyman, senior vice president of Business Intelligence for eNR Services. "AP Planner lets you find the events that can give you a newsworthy angle, especially if the holiday season isn't appropriate."
When deciding how to present your product or promotion to the media, you need to take a step back and think, act and write like a journalist.
As the holidays arrive, it seems everyone is trying to get their products in lights…but have you considered the limelight? Find red carpet events or celebrity functions where your products can be included in swag bags or provide samples. Or be creative and find an awareness day that sets you apart from the normal holiday-themed pitches. In addition, AP Planner offers a way for companies to stay on top of their competitors by seeing what other products are being launched.
