Oradell, NJ (May 22, 2007) -- Huntington Learning Center, founded in 1977, is celebrating its 30th anniversary on June 9th as the nation’s longest-running supplemental education services provider, and a pioneer and leader in the franchise learning center arena. Huntington provides instruction in reading, writing, spelling, phonics, mathematics and study skills as well as SAT and ACT preparation to tens of thousands of students in kindergarten through 12th grade. Huntington has the experience in perfecting its programs which specialize in helping parents, caregivers and educators identify the gaps in skills that can limit learning potential, and in providing a personalized program of instruction to enable children to excel.

I’m an educator first and businessperson second, but my instincts told me there was a need for supplemental education in today’s world,” said Eileen Huntington. “There were just too many students who weren’t meeting their potential, and we believed that with a personalized program, they could learn.” Eileen Huntington, along with her husband, Raymond J. Huntington, began Huntington Learning Centers, Inc. with a mission:  “To give every student the best education possible.” This had become and remains the company’s mission statement ever since. Huntington Learning Centers are now operating in 41 states including the District of Columbia, with 34 company-owned centers in the New York tri-state metropolitan area.

Huntington's recent growth has been fueled by the rising number of parents and families seeking effective tutoring for students facing difficulties in meeting increasingly rigorous academic standards, and also with the implementation of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2002. Since 1998, the supplemental education services industry has grown at a compounded annual rate of nearly 12 percent, reaching $6 billion in 2004.

“Today’s parents and caregivers recognize that they are consumers of education. A valuable education is no longer a choice.  Parents want to be assured that their children are receiving all the support they need to reach their academic potential,” said Huntington Learning Center Chief Executive Officer J.J. Sorrenti. “One of our key goals over the next several years is to become even more responsive to the marketplace, offering programs and services that positively impact the lives of even more students nationwide.”

Huntington prides itself on offering individualized programs based on diagnostic evaluation designed to tackle the personal academic challenges faced by each student.  This individualized strategy is also true of Huntington’s specialized SAT and ACT test prep which is unlike any other program offered in the industry.  The growth and success of Huntington has much to do with their unique programs, but the programs go hand-in-hand with trained, state-certified, dedicated teachers.

In celebration of Huntington Learning Center’s 30th Anniversary, for a limited time centers are offering a $50 scholarship certificate toward a Diagnostic Evaluation.  Parents are encouraged to mention this article when contacting Huntington.  For more information or to locate the nearest center to you, please call 1-800 CAN LEARN.
